CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Saladi uses Organic Textiles that have been certified by GOTS, Leather, by LWG Audited Tanneries. Materials used across the supply chain are Officially Certified by various different Globally Recognised Conservationist Organisations such as Fair Trade, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, SA8000, Global Recycle Standard et cetera.
Secondly, Saladi also offers Leather and Fabrics from the remnant markets of India. Surplus materials are discarded by fashion houses and this "waste" is on its way to the landfills, polluting the environment. Saladi comes in between and breaks this cycle by using these timeless materials to make products that are good for people and good for our planet.
BETTER LEATHER
LEATHER
A BY PRODUCT
Leather derived from bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine sources is a by-product of the meat industry — meaning animals are reared by the agricultural sector for the food sector, and the leather industry exists to process a by-product of the meat industry.
RECYCLED
LEATHER
Leather can be recycled.
Scraps and side trimmings are the "waste" or residue that is generated when making traditional leather products. These scrapes are shredded into smaller particles and further mixed with rubber, water and colouring agents. The resulting product is spread over a base and then surfaced evenly by being run over by conveyor rollers. Further, it is cut into leather panels of specific dimensions. Finally, it is either coated with a certain finish or given a grain texture. The leather is now ready to be used in the making of various different products.
LWG LEATHER
LWG or Leather Working Group is an organisation thats develops and maintains a protocol that assesses the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of leather manufacturers and promotes sustainable environmental practices.
LWG Tanneries are adopting tighter safety protocols that keep chemicals and more benign forms of chrome from polluting the environment.
SALADI partners with LWG GOLD Certified Tanneries that ensure the following -
-
Reduced carbon, water, and waste footprints.
-
Limited use of chemicals like chrome and pesticides.
-
Negligible environmental impact on local agricultural practices.
-
Manufacturing processes designed with care for the health of those working and living in and around the sites.
The LWG’s audit standard also covers many elements of leather manufacturing, including water use, energy consumption, chemical management, disposal of solid waste, effluent treatment, and management of air and noise emissions.
